An obsession with detail is a hallmark of Mazda design. By focusing on that which is often unseen, true beauty, with depth and soul, emerges. The Mazda CX-50 is our latest expression of this ethos, the results felt at a glance.
Anand Varma is also passionate about paying attention to the little things. An award-winning National Geographic Photographer, his macrophotography captures nature’s tiniest details.
Guided by Anand as they travel in the CX-50, Chef Melissa King finds herself awed and exhilarated by the stories revealed in nature’s minutiae. Like fireweed honey, which bees produce from a wildflower that is the first to grow after a wildfire and carries with it a truly unique flavor.
Along the coast, they explore tide pools and discover the surprisingly intricate life hidden inside and around the shells of mollusks. Stunning details emerge as Anand takes macro shots of mussels and barnacles, using the CX-50’s cargo space as an impromptu photo lab. These beautiful details inspire Melissa to create a meal she’d never prepared before.

DESIGN LIVES IN THE DETAILS
While we are often struck by the grand scenery and expansive landscapes found outdoors, paying attention to details can be its own reward. The smallest subtleties elevating the banal into something beautiful. This is what Mazda believes, and can be witnessed in the intricate design touches in the CX-50—like the textures of interior dials and available leather stitching inspired by technical outdoor gear.
COLOR TELLS ITS OWN STORY
Color is a key player in nature’s story—drawing bees to flowers, differentiating species and offering vibrant details to Anand’s lens. In the CX-50, this is evident in the basecoat and application technique used to apply exterior paint—which results in stunningly reflective colors, like available Polymetal Gray Metallic, which appears to shift in hue as the environment changes around it. While moving through the trees or along the coastline, Mazda’s CX-50 pays homage to its natural surroundings.
