Nature's Uplifting Power

Spending time in nature uplifts us as humans. This is why the Mazda CX-50 was created—to immerse us more fully in the outdoors, more often.
Chef Melissa King travels in the CX-50 to the Oregon desert, where she is transformed by her experience. She overcomes her fear of heights as she completes her first outdoor rock climb, with coaching from adventure photographer and rock climber, Irene Yee.
Feeling energized, Irene and Melissa took the CX-50 off-road to meet with ecologist Amanda Egertson, who helped them discover the region’s incredibly resilient flora and fauna. Melissa emerges inspired, excited to prepare a meal that reflects the hardiness of the desert and connects to some of her and Irene’s shared cultural traditions.
Every journey into nature can change us. The Mazda CX-50, a perfect companion as we seek out experiences that will have a lasting impact.

"WHEN YOU'RE UP THERE [ON THE CLIFF] IT'S JUST SILENCE - AND IT FEELS LIKE WHEN I'M COOKING. JUST COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED FROM ALL THE NOISE."

DESERT INSPIRED DESIGN
Melissa found herself uplifted by the powerful life force of the desert and drawn in by its truly distinct beauty. Mazda created a brand-new paint color to reflect this dynamic and alluring place: Available Zircon Sand Metallic, inspired by, and respectful of desert hues.

CAPABILITY AND CONNECTION
Pulling a trailer behind the Mazda CX-50, Melissa carried her full kitchen setup for her culinary creations. Mi-Drive technology not only makes it possible to confidently traverse loose dirt roads while using the available towing feature, it ensures a constant sense of connection between the driver, the vehicle and just about any terrain throughout the journey.
